Baby Room

Play and sleep - an important aspect of baby childcare

The curriculum is based around three prime areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS):
  • Communication and Language
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Physical Development
These three areas of learning are delivered and supported through routines, interaction and play experiences.

Babies are introduced to heuristic play experiences, which expose children to different natural textures and materials. Babies explore treasure baskets which contain natural everyday objects, such as keys, shells, brushes, sponges and silk scarves. Babies can choose objects to explore with their senses of touch, taste, sight, smell and hearing. This approach also supports activities and routines where social and emotional development can grow, building relationships, sharing and taking turns.

Daily experiences include specially planned activities such as art and craft, gluing, drawing and painting with brushes, hands or feet. The babies also take part in other creative activities using different textured materials such as flour, cornflour, play dough, water and sand. All materials are non-toxic and safe for children.

There is a separate room for sleeping, where children are allocated a cot. The room is peaceful and relaxing providing a home from home atmosphere where babies can sleep. Babies are supervised at all times.
